ETG encourages engineering development and achievement through the presentation of papers and publishing of journal articles in international magazines. ETG holds three patents in the name of the inventors who are current group members. ETG has held 'technical expert' positions on the International Standards Organisation ISO TC working group committees. ETG is proactive in promoting products and technical expertise through exhibiting at national and international exhibitions and conferences. ETG achieved IS0 9001 Quality System accreditation in 1996.
ETG is registered with the Australian Government Industry Research Board which has enabled successful grant applications and taxation concessions under section 39J of the Taxation Act. ETG until 2004 was primarily a project focused organization with principal revenue streams derived from major road projects.
In 2004 the company's strategic mission changed from project design and development type work to product manufacture.
A critical consideration in this commercial operational refocus was the identification of core product opportunities in a growth market with high nett yield, maximized investment return with minimal development cost and minimal local competition and technical risk. ETG had noted growing inquiry and opportunities related to vehicle detection products including non-intrusive detection technology, vehicle classification, vehicle categorisation, vehicle counting and heavy vehicle weigh in motion technology.
These products have traditional short and medium term objectives associated with road maintenance, planning and traffic management which translates into both project supply and steady ongoing sales. Vehicle detection is fundamental to traffic engineering both in arterial road network operation and freeway incident and congestion management.
Vehicle classification and counting provide precursory data for implementing and operating road pricing systems which are considered inevitable. Road pricing is emerging as an integral infrastructure element within World Bank and Asian Development Bank forward planning polices.
ETG has registered a brand name trademark as a banner for the vehicle detection product range:
